Nestled in the southeast area of the Denver metropolitan area and centered around the park of the same name, Bonnie Brae is a charming neighborhood with inviting streets, lots of trees and plenty of friendly people who call it home. The name means "pleasant hill" in Gaelic and the area really lives up to its name. As a real estate development created in the 20’s, homes in the area run the gamut from small homes with lots of different architectural styles and character to custom multimillion dollar homes. The neighborhood is also home the 33,000 SF Phipps Mansion, completed in 1933 which was originally constructed by former Colorado senator, Lawrence Cole Phipps.
The annual summer picnic at the park is just one of the major events that allow neighbors to meet and enjoy the community together. It also serves as the yearly meeting of the Neighborhood Association Board. Anyone looking for a tight-knit and friendly community to call home would do well to in Bonnie Brae/Belcaro. The Bonnie Brae commercial district is located on University between Ohio and Exposition and is considered to be the area’s “Main Street” .The historic Bonnie Brae Tavern was first opened by Carl and Sue Dire back in 1934 and is still a popular place to hangout for residents. During summer the hottest spot to cool down is the Bonnie Brae Ice Cream shop which has been churring out homemade ice cream since 1986.
